Crushing and Quality Conversation

Tuesday, May. 14, 2002 - 12:29 PM

Today: Discussing over-emotional boys with Jen on the drive in to work

Song: It's just a lil crush

Have I mentioned that I am currently crushing on Tobey Maguire? I normally don't like pretty boys but he is SO pretty! Look at his yummy mouth! *biting lip*

Well since I am currently going for cute/pretty, slightly dorky looking white boys, anyone interested? Better hurry cuz who knows how long this is going to last! Hee hee!

I caught an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" a few nights ago and Raymond's wife was upset that they didn't really talk anymore. All they talked about was the kids. The episode was about them going out for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner and neither of them had anything to say to each other all night long.

Anyways this situation is so common. You're in a relationship with someone and if you guys have been together for a long period of time, quality conversation may lag a bit. Your time spent together ends up just watching tv, not talking to each other. Or just like in the show, dinners are eaten in silence.

I know this doesn't bother everyone. At the end of the show when the couple is arguing at Raymond's parents' home, they notice the parents eating lunch together. They sit in silence and don't even look at each other. There is some kind of unspoken communciation going on though. He holds out his glass she fills it up, she hands him a napkin even before he needs it. Lil things like that. Raymond thinks it's eerie but his wife thinks it's actually sweet. To her it means that they are so well connected to each other that they don't even need to talk.

In my opinion (my unmarried and unattached opinion, that is!) conversation is very important to me. Talking to your SO is important. People in long term relationships can end up in a slump. They just get too comfortable with each other and conversation dies. I don't want that to happen to me. I don't want to sit across them at dinner and have nothing to talk about.

What's your opinion on this?

Dreaming of my Tobey! =)
